After the research and studio practice in unit 2, I have a more clear path to further develop on my topic. Since I found my research topic in unit 1 is board. I narrowed it down and addressing more directly towards my practice and research. “How can painterliness stand in the position of language” is now a more specific topic I am focusing on. Staring from human experiences, the translation of human experiences to language, realising the lost in language and how painting provide a bigger picture of abstracted image and blank space allowing imagination to translate feelings. Later on I move on the elements in linguistics, like syntax and lexicology which I am recently in the process of research for. These are all comment ground painting and language shared and to create unique experience to the audience. At the same time it address the reality and social issue.
To further develop my research, I would like to reach out for more people in different field. Especially in poetry, other than visiting to the Poetry Library archive, I would like to meet up with people who write, or use writing as creative practice. Understanding how the practice of poetry portrait the world they see. On the other hand, I am also planning to reach out archive from Helen Frankenthaler, record my feelings and trying to organise my thoughts into recording. Currently I have a numbers of recording about my feelings during the visit to exhibitions. Some are recorded from the exhibitions and some are after. As I believe the process of talking about things, it is like wandering around, like wandering with the audience in different time space, but guiding with a thoughts.
For studio art practice, I am planning to explore more on how my paintings could hang or install in a better way. I am now interested in how can I use the tension from rabbit skin glue to help me with stretching the canvas on the stretchers, or without stretchers. As I found my interest in using distemper, the force holding the fabric is very strong and I believe this characters of rabbit skin glue can be use in developing how I install art work.
Lastly, I am planning to apply for more art fundings and exhibition. During unit 2, I have attend the online conference with OCAD U and UAL, and I found it can help me to connect with other people thoughts and suggest me to see thing in another perspective. I would like to reach out for more connection in the art field. Moreover, I am also trying to develop the relationship with commercial art gallery. In the coming summer of 2022, I am going to exhibit my works in Affordable Art Fair in Hong Kong, although I am not able to visit in person, but I believe it is a great opportunity to include my works there, as the audience in Art Fair are a bit different from in academic field.
All in all, I believe the research and proactive process in unit 3 or further will be more complex, and I am excited to open up the thought being inspired from people in different field.
